It's About Us...Me and You!
About Christy Johnson...
Master Partner Dance Instructor / Romance Coach, has been teaching for over 30
years. She's taught 10's of thousands of people to enjoy partner dancing. Her
teaching techniques are proven to make learning fast and easy. You won't find a
better Partner Dance Instructor in North San Diego County!
Christy comes from a family of vaudeville performers. She took dance lessons from
her grandmother and aunt from ages 3 to 16 when she started teaching the younger
students in the studio. At age 18 she trained at a popular dance franchise that won't
allow us to say their name and over the years has trained with many hand selected
dance masters across the country in many styles of dance including Swing, Latin,
Ballroom, Country Western, Jazz, Ballet, Flamenco, Belly, Folk and Tap Dance.
Christy has taught many, many students just like you at community colleges,
community centers and dance studios in Boston and North San Diego County. Her
extensive experience as a dance performer has put her on a great number of
theatre stages and some television shows and videos over the years.
Christy hand selected the instructors from which she took lessons and opted for a
richer dance experience than a college would give her. She believes that being a
good dance instructor has everything to do with the amount of hours you teach in
front of a class, not if you've spent that time working in the competitive dance circuit
or playing on the dance floor. The most important qualification she has as a dance
instructor is her 30+ years of teaching experience where she has learned the art of
teaching from her wonderful students. Yes, she is a fabulous dancer, many people
strive to dance with such connection and passion, but teaching is her first love...her
enthusiasm for it is contagious!
Christy is currently raising her two boys and teaching social dance in North County
San Diego...and loving it!!

And About YOU...
This is the Dedication from my handbook:
Partner Dancer's Handbook
The Partner Dance Pyramid Explained
This book is dedicated to the 10's of thousands of students I have taught since 1973. I've learned so much about how to be a great teacher
from my students...much more than I could have ever learned in any university or college. You have taught me the way to teach you better and to
create new and more effective ways to breakdown the components of Partner Dance into bite-sized pieces. My goal in each class is to help you
to discover a little more about the dance lover inside you and for you to walk away with moves that you can retain and use immediately.
As many of you have learned, or will learn, this is a repetitive art. One must repeat the moves over and over again in order to execute them well.
Therefore, I must teach the same moves over and over again in order for you to accomplish that goal. Several decades ago, when I was a
young teacher, I became weary of this repetitive process. I turned inward to discover that, “I am not teaching dance...I am teaching people.”
From that moment on, I have committed myself to finding out about the personalities, dreams and goals of my students in order to teach you
the best way I can. Having training in psychology and sociology, and experience as a couples therapist, has helped me with this process.
I call myself a Master Partner Dance Instructor. I didn't get that title from any review board of my peers or someone sitting in an office
somewhere figuring out what makes a great teacher. I earned that title from teaching you, year after year, hour after hour, moment after
moment. You are my professors and my judges. You are my inspiration. And I thank you deeply for it.
My career goal is to become a Partner Dance Instruction Expert. To me this means that I will understand all the nuances of how to teach and
execute Partner Dance and all the dynamics in Man / Woman Relationships. As a psychotherapist trainee in my 20's, then in private practice,
my life as a wife, and now as a divorced mother, I've spent many hours learning how men and women interact and react to each other. I find this
research very interesting, it draws me in.
Through teaching, I have discovered--and now share with you--that The Partner Dance Model for Working Love Relationships (the subtitle of my
next book?) to be so “right on target”. I see my role with students not only as a dance instructor, but as a Relationship Coach. I believe my work
helps people to become more focused and clear about what they need to put into their relationships in order to get out of them what they want.
I've witnessed new energy and joy injected into people's lives through Partner Dance. Regretfully, I've also seen weak couples break up under
the stress of the work. Mostly I love when singles meet in class, fall in love with dance and each other, get married and have an incredible life-
long common interest.
Partner Dancing is a microcosm of your relationships. If a follower can gently surrender to her lead and a leader can gently direct his follower,
all is well in the world. Connect with yourself, connect with your partner, connect with social dancers. You will not regret your adventure.
With love and care,
Christy
